A word about voltage on Curaçao
Electricity on Curaçao is supplied at 127 and 220 volts, and always at 50 hertz. We have light fixtures for both voltages. Most of the time, it’s simply a matter of putting in the right bulb (a 127 or a 220 volt one). However, some light fixtures can only be used on either 127 or 220 volts, because the internal transformer and/or ballast are only suitable for one voltage. Changing the transformer and/or ballast is sometimes possible, but not always.

Lighting tips

Three steps towards choosing the right light

1. Ask yourself what you want to do with your lighting A basic but often overlooked question: what do you need the lighting for? Reading? Working? To set a mood? Simply thinking about this will help you make better choices.

2. Consider the different types of lighting
Roughly speaking, there are two types of lighting: ambient and functional.

Ambient lighting can be broken down into: accent lighting, which allows you to highlight certain things in your interior; lighting objects, which are items that you use to upgrade your interior and that emit light to create a warm atmosphere; and indirect lighting, which is an invisible light source. (An example would be strip lighting hidden behind a false ceiling, projecting a pleasant light onto a wall.)

Functional lighting always has a clear aim. It’s not so much about creating an atmosphere, but primarily about providing light. Functional lighting can be broken down into: basic lighting for lighting an entire room; orientation lighting, which has a lower light output and is used to define e.g. a driveway, the garden path or the landing, enabling you to find your way in the dark; and reading lights, which ensure that your eyes don't get too tired and allow you to enjoy a good book on a dark evening.

3. Ask a pro
Lighting is an art in itself. Please do not hesitate to contact our project department for expert advice. We welcome your questions and suggestions.
